What is Workaway Hawai'i?
Workaway Hawai'i is a unique and free program that allows individuals to experience living in Hawai'i for a period of time, providing a comfortable room to stay, sleep, and relax. This program, often referred to as Workaway in Hawai'i, offers not only a place to stay but also a rich cultural and educational experience where participants can learn about farming, plants, business practices, and various cultures. For Hawaii residents, guests can be offered a Host farm on their island or a quick flight away to another island such as Maui or Hawaii Island. Participants, known as "workaway guests," delve into organic farming and sustainability while enjoying free room and board along with delicious, healthy food during their stay. Workaway Hawaii's hosts provide a range of educational opportunities, including growing fruits and vegetables, beekeeping, caring for animals, and engaging in renewable energy and construction projects like solar power, as well as making products such as chocolate, beer, wine, dried fruits, and macadamia nuts.
Guests also have the option to partake in other activities that align with their skills or interests, such as writing blogs for farms, creating videos, or generating content to promote farming initiatives. They can even assist in delivering food to families in need, utilizing produce from farms that might otherwise go to waste, especially as many households in our state struggle to feed their loved ones. There are numerous ways to contribute, even for those with no prior experience!

Workaway Hawai'i, managed by volunteer students, fosters a welcoming environment where student guests quickly build good relationships with our team members and enjoy engaging interactions throughout their time in the program. Additionally, for those looking to explore similar opportunities, Workaway Maui, Workaway Hawai'i island and WWOOF provide alternative platforms for enriching agricultural experiences.
Who can join?
This program is open to anyone 16 years of age or older, regardless of experience or skills. Unlike other websites, there are no membership fees – it is completely FREE to join! We encourage all types of guests to participate in Workaway Hawaii and work together with their Host to strengthen sustainable agriculture in Hawaii while enjoying the beautiful scenery. Workaway Hawaii is a fantastic opportunity to meet new, like-minded people with similar interests! Many of our guests have made close friends, new connections, and lasting relationships through Workaway Hawai'i.
How long can I stay?
The length of your visit with a Hawaii Host is optional. Guests can participate in a workaway for just a few days or stay for many months or more. It’s possible that your Host may even sponsor you for a job or an extended stay. Sponsored guests could potentially remain for up to one year if the Host wishes to extend the guest’s stay at their request. For those looking to move out of their current home and start a new path in life, this workaway program can be particularly beneficial, especially since long-term options are often available.

Our program supports local Hawaiian Hosts, allowing them to contribute to their communities and enhance Hawaii’s food supply chain. With Hawaii currently importing 80% of its food, Workaway Hawai'i aims to boost local food production.

Local Guests
Hawaii residents have the opportunity to spend time on another island and return home as frequently as weekly or stay on a farm for weeks or months, potentially up to a year or longer depending on the Host's availability. Through Hawaii Workaway, residents can stay at host farms at no cost, enjoying a room to stay and provided meals.
Your part-time contributions to Workaway Hawaii farms will support our mission of making Hawaii's food production sustainable and fostering a better future for our community. Your efforts have a direct impact on local residents because Hawaii's farms need our assistance more than ever, and in many cases, your involvement can help jumpstart new farms throughout our state, with Workaway Hawaii (a program comparable to WWOOF).
Mainland Guests
Aloha and welcome to Hawaii! Workaway Hawaii invites guests from mainland America who wish to join our program and stay in Hawaii for free while helping out at beautiful Hawaiian farms. Our initiative, part of the Hawaii Workaway program, is dedicated to assisting the State of Hawaii in achieving its food production goals of generating at least 50% of our food supply from local farms. Currently, 80% of all food in Hawaii is imported.
Whether you're looking to visit Hawaii for a week or two, several months, or even longer, depending on the availability of our host farms, you can immerse yourself in the experience.
